Allen Bill Establishing “Troops to College” Program Approved by Committee

Program to Help Veterans Make the Transition into College Classrooms

Legislation sponsored by Senator Diane Allen (R-7) that would provide support services for veterans at New Jersey’s public institutions of higher education was approved today by the Senate Education Committee. The measure, S-2171, is modeled on California’s successful Troops to College Program and seeks to provide assistance to veterans attempting to obtain a college education.

Allen: Introduces Legislation to Repeal DRPA Toll Increase

Senator Diane Allen (R-7) introduced legislation this week to repeal the increases in tolls and fares on the Delaware River Port Authority’s (DRPA’s) four bridges and on the PATCO train system. The DRPA are increasing tolls by two thirds over the next two years. Senator Allen is joined by sixteen Republican co-sponsors on the legislation. Governor Corzine had the opportunity to veto these toll increases this year but refused.
