While State Offices Across New Jersey Shut Down for a Furlough Day, It Will Be Business as Usual at the 8th District Legislative Office
Motor Vehicle Commission offices and locations were closed Monday (May 18), and other state offices will go dark for one furlough day before the end of the month. Many offices will be closed on Friday, May 22, making it impossible for taxpayers to access service for a four-day stretch over the extended Memorial Day weekend.

Legislators have asked the Attorney General to investigate
Senator Phil Haines, Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder today asked Attorney General Anne Milgram to investigate the distribution of a publication called “The Klansmen’s Voice” that has been dropped at homes in the 8th Legislative District.

Legislation Protects Property Taxpayers from a Law that Prevented School Board in Pemberton Borough from Slicing the Tax Rate
When the Board of Education tried to cut school taxes in Pemberton Borough and save property taxpayers an average of $300 each, they learned that in Governor Corzine’s New Jersey, it is against the law to reduce taxes.

Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder expressed frustration with today’s ruling by the State Supreme Court that municipalities cannot prohibit convicted sex offenders from living in designated areas.
The lawmakers are sponsors of Assembly bill A-641, which would change the statute and permit municipalities to regulate where sex offenders may reside.

Legislation Will Stiffen Sentences for Gang Members Convicted of Crimes
With the rise in gang-related crime and arrests in Burlington County and across the State of New Jersey, Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder will introduce a bill to help law enforcement deal with the increase and to extend the time convicted gang members will spend behind bars.
The announcement comes just a day after the release of the New Jersey Uniform Crime Report that shows a 6 percent increase in crime in Burlington County, and a 5 percent increase statewide.
