Senator Gerald Cardinale (R-39)

Fox, Like First Boss McGreevey, Plays Politics At Taxpayer Expense

Senator Gerald Cardinale (R-39) issued this statement about the re-nomination of Jeanne Fox as president of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities:

“It was shocking, frankly, that Governor Corzine would re-nominate a McGreevey administration appointee who kept a secret $100 million bank account to lead the agency that oversees our critical electricity supplies.

“But now I think I understand why. She seems to have padded the BPU payroll with patronage employees earning $1 million in annual salaries. They include castoffs of the McGreevey administration, failed Democrat Assembly candidates, and unemployed Democrat political operatives for local, state and even presidential campaigns.

“Few appointees of McGreevey’s corrupt and fiscally disastrous administration remain in Cabinet-level posts. But Fox keeps Democratic political operatives employed. She even hired a former aide to McGreevey love interest, Golen Cipel.

“Perhaps Governor Corzine can’t afford to let someone go who’s so willing to help out unemployed Democrats in need.

“Nevertheless, I call on the governor to withdraw this outrageous nomination and then name someone who will fire every patronage employee at the BPU. We need a top utility regulator who will do everything to rein in utility bills and safeguard our electricity supplies, not spend her time shielding unemployed Democrats from the harsh demands of the private sector.”
