100% of Morris County Districts Stay Under Cap

Senate Republican Budget Officer Tony Bucco commented today on the effects of the 2 percent property tax cap enacted by the Legislature in 2010:

“Last summer the Senate and General Assembly enacted a 2 percent property tax cap on school districts and municipalities statewide. Many naysayers thought that this cap would have little or no effect; they were wrong.

“Published reports in the Daily Record of Morris County indicate that every school district in the county stayed under the new 2 percent cap. By this measure the property tax cap was a resounding success.

“Of course much more work needs to be done to reduce out-of-control taxes, especially property taxes, in New Jersey. In my role as Budget Officer, I look forward towards finding more savings in the state budget over the next few years.”
