Senator Anthony Bucco (R-25) issued the following statement today regarding Governor Corzine’s proposed fiscal year 2009 budget:
“I am pleased that the Governor has come to the same conclusion, that I, the Republican members of the legislature and the vast majority of New Jersey residents realized a long time ago; that raising tolls 800% is not the solution to our state’s fiscal problems.
“However, I believe that the Governor has not gone far enough in making New Jersey affordable for working class families. The Governor should focus on cutting such programs such as “Distressed City Aid” that costs nearly $200 million a year and is arbitrarily allocated based on political ties, or eliminating $150 million in school funding pork that benefits only 11 districts including one that is run by a dual office holder.
“Ending these type’s of programs, coupled with enacting pension reform measures and eliminating political patronage jobs are the steps necessary to get New Jersey’s fiscal house in order.”
