“The popularity of locally-grown and produced wines has boomed and we should keep the momentum moving forward,” Brown said. “Yet, the national and global market for wines remains competitive, so we need to give our local vintners an edge.”

The legislation, S-1082, co-sponsored by Senator Brown, provides tax credits to vineyards and wineries for capital expenses such as barrels and bins, fencing, fruit plants, labeling equipment, and other winery equipment.

“Atlantic County wineries are producing outstanding wines that are receiving international and national recognition,” Brown said. “Once one our wineries receive an award, consumers from all over instantly look to buy cases of it. This bill would allow our local wineries to keep up with the demand and grow our share of the market.”

New Jersey’s wine and grape industries provided over $323 million in economic value to the state and brought in over 100 thousand winery tourist in 2016, according to a report by the Garden State Wine Growers Association.

“Wineries and vineyards are one of Atlantic County’s wonderful tourism charms along with our beaches, boardwalks, and ocean,” Brown added. “It is important to help these wine attractions grow as Atlantic County continues to diversify our economy, making it more affordable for our families and retirees.”

Currently, tourists and residents can visit 7 different wineries in the western part of Atlantic County.
