Presentation Addresses Security in Schools
Senator Jennifer Beck, Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini and Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande arranged a meeting today between The Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (OHSP) and the Hillel Yeshiva administration to address security concerns. An informative security presentation was given by representatives of OHSP.
“During a meeting with Hillel Yeshiva earlier this year it was made clear that they, like all of our schools, want to be sure they are doing everything they can to address the safety and security of Hillel,” said Beck. “I wanted to bring in OHSP to meet personally with the administration, board members and the faculty of Hillel Yeshiva to discuss options and offer some ideas and methods to make the school more secure. The last thing we want is students, teachers and parents worrying about security while at school.”
Hillel Yeshiva provides students with a Judaic and general education helping students achieve success by building the religious, academic and personal foundation that will enable them to possess a commitment to Torah and mitzvot, community, the people and the State of Israel.
“In this day and age security can not be stressed enough,” said Sammy Saka, President of the Hillel Yeshiva Board. “Our children should feel as safe in their schools as they do at home. We greatly appreciated the legislators arranging this meeting and allowing us to speak to OHSP about our concerns and issues. Today’s meeting will go a long way in making our school safe and more secure.”
“Unfortunately, recent tragedies have underscored the need to take steps to protect our schoolchildren, ” said Angelini. “I applaud Hillel Yeshiva for being aggressive in addressing school security and I am grateful that the Office of Homeland Security was willing to assist Hillel in their efforts to safeguard their students.”
