Senator Jennifer Beck (R-Monmouth) joined Monmouth County Freeholders and local officials at a groundbreaking today after a 17-year-long fight to celebrate the successful procurement of $17.5 million in funding to conduct pedestrian safety and road improvements at the Route 34/537 intersection in Colts Neck.

“I’m proud to stand side-by-side with Freeholder Director Burry in the effort to see this important project finally come to fruition,” said Beck. “I applaud Freeholder Director Burry and all of our Freeholders and local officials for moving the ball forward for more than a decade. These improvements will greatly enhance pedestrian safety and traffic calming for Colts Neck.”

The intersection routinely prompts traffic complaints from residents. Beck was made aware of the issue and immediately began fiercely advocating for the funding to the State Department of Transportation. Beck personally brought the Department of Transportation out to the location on numerous occasions to stress the need for the project.

Some of the improvements include widening both Route 34 and County Road 537 as well as replacing the traffic signal and bridges on both roads.

“This intersection sees tens of thousands of vehicles pass through every day. Residents have told me that they routinely spend almost 20 minutes trying to make it through the light because of the congestion,” Beck continued. “Widening both major roads, along with the other enhancements, will make a significant difference in the lives of our commuters.”
