Senator Christopher (Kip) Bateman (R-16) issued the following statement today regarding Governor Corzine’s proposed fiscal year 2009 budget:
“Fortunately it seems that the Governor’s 800% toll hike proposal is dead in the water. However, the Governor is still relying too heavily on middle class families to shoulder the load of the state’s bloated budget.
“The Governor should focus on real spending cuts like ending all Christmas tree spending, reducing aid to Abbott districts and enacting substantial pension reform measures. While he is moving in the right direction the cuts need to be increased and expanded to make New Jersey more affordable for working families.
“Additionally, I am encouraging the Senate President and Speaker of the General Assembly to immediately put forth for a vote two measures that would substantially reform New Jersey’s budget. Constitutional amendments that would cap state spending and ban future borrowing are necessary measures to get New Jersey’s fiscal house in order.”
