Weinberg, Allen, Spencer and Handlin Selected as Co-Chairs of the Caucus
The Women’s Legislative Caucus met today to select officers and to begin setting a positive agenda for working families and property taxpayers. The Caucus selected Senator Loretta Weinberg, Senator Diane Allen, Assemblywoman Grace Spencer and Assemblywoman Amy Handlin as the chairs of their respective conferences.
“It is only fitting that this Caucus be established on the eve of Women’s History Month here in New Jersey,” said Senator Turner, D-Mercer, who spearheaded the formation of the Caucus. “There is strength in numbers, and this strength is only enhanced by the fact that we are the first caucus that is bipartisan in numbers and in cultural diversity. We are eager to live up to our mission of advancing the issues and concerns of women, children and families, while improving the quality of life for all who make New Jersey their home.”
“Today we laid out our agenda, which includes a number of areas that are of particular interest to women and their families,” said Senator Weinberg, D-Bergen. “I am pleased that the Caucus voiced enthusiastic support for the newly released ‘Party Democracy Act,’ which is sponsored by Senator Allen and myself in the Senate, and Assemblywomen Linda Greenstein, Valerie Vainieri-Huttle, Charlotte Vandervalk and Assemblyman Gordon Johnson. I look forward to working with my colleagues in both houses on this exciting new venture.”
“I am pleased that my peers have elected me to represent them in the Women’s Legislative Caucus,” Allen stated. “We will move forward with an agenda to affect positive change for every citizen in the state. Over the next few months we will face one of the most challenging periods in the history of New Jersey, and I look forward to ensuring that the needs of middle-class families and taxpayers are well represented.”
“I am honored to join Senators Loretta Weinberg and Diane Allen and Assemblywoman Amy Handlin as one of the co-chairs of the Women’s Legislative Caucus,” said Assemblywoman Grace Spencer (D-Essex). “I look forward to working on a bipartisan and bicameral basis to focus on legislation that will enhance the quality of life for women and families across New Jersey.”
“Our working model of bipartisan decision-making is already a positive force for change, and an incubator for new solutions to the problems of our state,” Assemblywoman Handlin concluded.
