Legislation sponsored by Senator Dawn Addiego (R-8) that authorizes county colleges and county vocational school districts to enter into one or more partnerships with private entities to develop and establish green job certification programs was signed into law today.
“In order for New Jersey to attract businesses that are in the green industry, such as wind, solar and biofuels, we need to demonstrate that New Jersey is an attractive and viable site for the location of such industries and that we have a trained and educated workforce, ” Addiego stated. ”
The county college or county vocational school district would identify needed skills, develop training programs, and train workers for green jobs in one or more industries such as energy efficient building, construction and retrofits, renewable electric power, energy efficient vehicles, biofuels, and manufacturing that produces sustainable products and uses sustainable processes and materials. A green jobs certification would be issued to an individual who successfully completes the training program.
“By putting a bigger emphasis on cleaner technologies and green jobs, this legislation will help put unemployed New Jerseyans back to work by giving them the skills necessary to compete in today’s green economy, ” Addiego concluded.
