Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt was born on September 4, 1964 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He graduated from Toms River High School East and attended Trenton State College where he graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He received a Master's Degree in Public Policy and Government from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1983.
Assemblyman Van Pelt was elected to the Ocean Township Committee in 1997 and served as Mayor in 1999 and 2001 as well as from 2003 to the present time. He is a member of the Ocean Township Planning Board and is Chairman of the Ocean Township Redevelopment Agency, Open Space Committee and Youth Advisory Committee.
Assemblyman Van Pelt served as a member of the Executive Board for the New Jersey State League of Municipalities from 2003 to 2007. He also served as a member of the Southern Ocean County Hospital Board of Trustees from 2003 to 2007.
Assemblyman Van Pelt was elected to his first General Assembly term in 2007. He is a memer of the Military and Veterans' Affairs Committee as well as the Environment and Solid Waste Committee.
Assemblyman Van Pelt and his wife, Stacey Diane, were married in 1996. They have two children. Kathleen was born in February of 1997 and Connor was born in October of 1999.
