Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose was elected to fill the remainder of Congressman Scott Garrett’s term in the New Jersey General Assembly in February 2003. She then went on to win the primary and general elections that year, and was re-elected again in 2005 and 2007. She is the first woman to serve the 24th District and the first New Jersey state legislator to give birth while in office in. Assemblywoman McHose and Senator Robert E. Littell were the first father-daughter team to serve simultaneously. Her grandfather, Alfred B. Littell, served in both houses of the legislature and was Senate President and Acting Governor.
Assemblywoman McHose serves as the Deputy Republican Conference Leader in the Assembly. She is a member of the Assembly Budget Committee and the Assembly Tourism and Gaming Committee. During her time in the Legislature, Assemblywoman McHose has been dedicated to veterans’ and military issues, crime and ethics concerns. She has seen several of her prime sponsored bills enacted into law including legislation to give the Superior Court exclusive jurisdiction in any matter concerning a motor vehicle incident where death or serious bodily injury has occurred; legislation making it a disorderly persons offense to purposely disrupt a funeral; and “The Sex Offender Monitoring Act” which establishes a program for the continuous, satellite-based monitoring of sex offenders.
For her service to the people of New Jersey and the 24th Legislative District, Assemblywoman McHose has been honored by several important organizations. She was selected as the New Jersey Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Legislator of the Year in January 2007; as the Legislator of the Year by the New Jersey Conference of Mayors in 2006; named “Legislative Leader of 2006” by the New Jersey Policy Research Organization, an affiliate of the New Jersey Business and Industry Association; she received the “Endless Journey” award in 2006 from the New Jersey Victims of Crime Law Center based in Sparta; she was honored by Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Morris & Sussex Counties, Inc. for her continued support of CASA and children in need throughout New Jersey; and she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Community Builders Association in 2007.
Prior to her legislative service, the assemblywoman worked as a Senate legislative aide specializing in budget issues for seven years. She was a Policy Council Director in Education & Healthcare for a grassroots outreach organization in Washington, DC and in the first Bush Administration at both the National Endowment for the Humanities, working directly for Chairwoman Lynne V. Cheney, and the US Department of the Treasury, under Secretary Nicholas Brady.
In 2008, Assemblywoman McHose was a Delegate to the Republican National Convention and she was one of New Jersey’s representatives to the Platform Committee. She is one of the New Jersey Co-Chairs for the McCain-Palin campaign. Assemblywoman McHose is also an elected member to the Sussex County Republican Committee.
Assemblywoman McHose was born on May 24, 1965, in Newton, New Jersey. She attended Simmons College, Boston and graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a B.S. in Government and Politics with a concentration in Economics.
Assemblywoman McHose and her husband Morgan were married in 1993. They reside in Franklin with their three children Logan, Grant and Molly.
